Release Highlights

This version introduces significant enhancements for multi-site installations. Up to now, in multi-site SPDRM installations with more than one remote sites, the central site was always the mediator of all file exchanges between remote sites, i.e. a file created in remote site "A" and requested by remote site "B" should first be transferred from site "A" to the central site, to finally be transferred to remote site "B". Targeting to a more efficient and "cost-effective" data transfer among sites, this version introduces "RIOC2RIOC", an optimized solution that enables site-to-site file transfer. In this implementation the system fetches the data from the nearest remote site, instead of getting them from the central site, speeding up file transfer between neighboring remote sites. In cloud-based installations, the number of requests and the total size of data transferred from cloud storage to external data centers affect the overall deployment cost. This cost could be drastically reduced by minimizing direct fetching of data from the cloud, by giving priority to external data centers (remote sites) during data transfers. Finally, this solution enables files from a specific remote site to be transferred to the nearest remote site directly, completely avoiding their exposure to the central site. This option could be useful for organizations that use cloud-based central site but on the other hand must conform to strict information security requirements for the storage of business-critical data on cloud.

On the way towards a cloud-native SPDRM, this version introduces direct integration with Amazon S3 (Amazon Simple Storage Service). Amazon S3 is a highly scalable and secure cloud-based storage service offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It provides developers and businesses with a reliable solution for storing and retrieving vast amounts of data. The integration with Amazon S3 offers a cost-effective storage on cloud, especially for large-scale SPDRM deployments.

Targeting to a lightweight application that will carry out batch jobs with the minimum memory and storage footprint, as well as with faster launching time, this version introduces the PEX (Process EXecutor), that comes as a replacement of the NoGUI Client. This means that the SPDRM NoGUI Client becomes deprecated from this version onward.

For system administrators, this version offers a web interface for the management of users and roles in SPDRM. The SPDRM Administration Page now offers new possibilities in Users Management, in addition to displaying the list of logged-in users and closing the active user sessions, which were already supported in previous versions. More specifically, this version introduces the following additional functionality:

  • Create, edit, deactivate/activate users
  • Assign roles to a user
  • Create/delete roles
  • Define role hierarchy
  • Add users to a role
  • Apply privileges on existing data
  • Assign target vault to role

Significant enhancements have also been made in the data search engine, introducing direct interface to Free Text Search service. Free Text Search service is a microservice that allows the user to perform search in natural language for all simulation data and processed results through KOMVOS, ANSERS, or REST API. The service is based in a Natural Language Processing (NLP) model and Elasticsearch, which handles data from SPDRM and creates its own information about the data to find relations and links beyond the ones captured as DM relations. This feature was already available since KOMVOS v23.0.0 and SPDRM v1.8.0, but up to now the SPDRM Streamer installation was required for the data to be synchronized automatically with the search mechanism without any manual updates. Towards a simpler architecture, this version enables the Free Text Search service updates based on direct communication with the SPDRM server. The new implementation does not need any additional installation and maintenance and it can provide the Free Text Search service with SPDRM data changes without adding any considerable overhead to the SPDRM server and Database. From this version, this service can be easily managed (start, update, clean indexing) through the SPDRM Administration page (section "Free Text Service").

Finally, this version includes the following back-end developments to support KOMVOS version 24.0.0 and later:

  • DM Filters are now saved and retrieved to/from the SPDRM server, allowing their sharing between the users of selected roles.
  • DM Tree Paths-based functionality, used for quick and easy focus on Simulation Models of interest, is enhanced. From now on, DM Tree Path-based focus can also be used to directly identify Subsystems and Simulation Runs.
  • Export/import of Scheduled Jobs is now possible.

Documentation Updates

New Documents

Updated Installation Guide, Administrator's Guide, User's Guide, Data Management Reference Manual, Scripting API Guide and REST API documentation.

Supported Platforms and System Requirements

The server software of SPDRM is running under 64bit flavors of Linux.

The client software of SPDRM is running under 64bit flavours of Linux and MS Windows.

The software requires a different license key to the rest of the products of BETA CAE Systems. This license key should be incorporated into the same license file, if such is already installed, and requires beta_lm, the proprietary license manager of BETA CAE Systems.

For details, refer to the System Requirements document.

What to download

All files required for the installation of this version reside in the folder named: "SPDRM_v1.10.0" and are dated as of July 26, 2023.

These files should replace any pre-releases or other files downloaded prior to that date.

The distribution of this version of SPDRM is packaged in one, single, unified installation file that invokes the respective installer and guides the procedure for the installation of the required components (i.e. SPDRM server and client).

Earlier software releases are also available in the sub-directory called "Previous_Versions" or in a folder named after the product and version number.
